WhatsApp updates its Windows Phone app to add new features and comply with privacy laws

New European privacy rules take effect on May 25th, which prevent companies like Facebook from using members' personal data without express consent. Facebook owned messaging app WhatsApp has just updated its Windows Phone platform to conform with the new privacy laws on the continent. The update takes the latest version of WhatsApp to v2.18.88, and also includes some other features, performance enhancements and bug fixes.
With the update, users of the messaging app can request to see data that the app has collected from them. Similar to Facebook, clicking on "Request Account Info" in settings will set this in motion, and a notification that the data is ready to be downloaded is usually sent within three days.
The update also adds new emoji to match those available to WhatsApp users using other operating systems; now, WhatsApp subscribers on Windows Phone will see the correct emoji sent from other WhatsApp members using iOS or Android. And the Live Location feature will soon be available for Windows Phone users. This allows WhatsApp members to share their location in real time during a conversation with a friend, family member or group. To enable it, users should tap on the Plus sign on the lower left corner of the screen and select Location. Tapping on Share Live Location will activate the Live Location Sharing feature. While this feature does appear on the app following the update, it is disabled. A server-side update to turn it on should take place shortly.
